Comsats, Unido sign agreement
ISLAMABAD- Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South (COMSATS) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) inked an agreement on co-operation at Vienna, Austria, recently.
The collaboration encompasses promotion and development of industry related scientific applications and technology transfer in common member countries.
The executive director of COMSATS, Dr Hameed Ahmed Khan, and UNIDO Director General Carlo Magarinos signed the agreement during the visit of COMSATS delegation to UNlDO headquarters in Vienna.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) covers assessment and transfer of environmentally sound and clean technologies for production cycle as well as end-of-pipe treatment of pollutants and wastes, training and assistance in technology assessment and screening, methodologies for investment and technology transfer, IS0 14000, collaboration among COMSATS centers of excellence and UNIDO technology centers in manufacturing technology.
Under the MoU, a project on establishment of industrial information network and database for small and medium enterprises (SME) development in Pakistan is already under way.
Comsats is acting as information and communication technology partner of the project, which aims to provide information, value-added support and related services to SMEs of Pakistan.
