CM urged to financially support poor artistes, poets

PESHAWAR: A meeting of the Cultural Journalists and Artistes Forum (CJAF) held at Peshawar Press Club here on Saturday demanded of Chief Minister Amir Raider Khan Hoti to take notice of the colossal damage to the art and culture of the province and extend financial support to the affected artistes, poets and writers.

They however, appreciated the Chief Minister for giving away cheques to Mashooq Sultan, Sahir Afridi and widow of Maulana Abdul Qadir but stressed that similar steps should be taken to ensure financial assistance to other deserving artistes who were spending miserable lives including famous senior artist Naeem Jan, H.M. Raza and Agha Zulfi, folk singer Bacha Zareen Jan, Swati widow’ king hero of Pashto movies Badar Muner, widow of the Sufi singer and music cornposer Rafiq Shinwari, prominent poets Murad Shinwari, Abdur Rahim Roghanai and Akmal Lewanai.

These and many other artistes, singers and intellectuals were forced to live their lives in penury, most of them being unable to purchase medicines and pay their utility bills.
