Child taken away after mother’s killing

KARACHI, Sept 15: A 20-year-old woman, the mother of two, was slaughtered on Tuesday at her house in Landhi by unidentified culprits who also took away her three-year-old son, witnesses and police said.

The Quaidabad police said that Sharafat Ali, a clearing and forwarding agent and resident of Sherpao Colony, reported to the police that he retuned home in the evening to find his wife, Safia, slaughtered and his son missing.

The victim’s husband stated that his eight-month-old son was found sleeping in another room.

The area SHO, Inspector Malik Aamir Hussain, told Dawn that the couple had been living in their rented house in the locality for the past three years.

He said that the incident seemed to be motivated by a personal enmity. He said that no one had seen any culprit or culprits enter or leave the victim’s house.

A Chhipa ambulance shifted the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.

Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim’s throat was slit by a sharp-edged weapon, most probably a knife.

The police said that no case was registered till late in the night as the medico-legal proceedings were still being completed.

They said that the police would register a case on the complaint of the victim’s husband who would report to the police after his wife’s funeral.

Man held for wife’s murder

A 30-year-old man was arrested for killing his wife in their house in Quaidabad.

The police said that the suspect, Saeed Khan, a restaurant waiter, was arrested near his house immediately after the killing of Ruqqiya Bibi.

The area SHO said that the childless couple, who hailed from Peshawar, got married seven years ago. He said that the man used to quarrel with his wife frequently.

The SHO said that the suspect was on the run after shooting his wife and a police patrol nabbed him red-handed. However, he said, the suspect claimed that he killed his wife for her being fond of a man. The police said that the unlicensed pistol the suspect had allegedly used to kill his wife was also seized from his possession. They said that a spent bullet casing of the pistol was also secured from the crime-scene.

The police registered a case against the suspect under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the penal code on the complaint of the victim’s father, Irshad Ahmed.
