Child protection bureau to start drive against beggary: Saba

Rawalpindi – Chairperson Child Protection Bureau Punjab, Begum Saba Sadiq paid a visit to Child Protection Bureau Rawalpindi on Monday afternoon.

She met the destitute and runaway children who are residing at the centre.

MPAs Lubna Yasmeen, Tehseen Fawad, Begum Raheela, Ziab-un-Nisa Awan and Sobia Satti, DG Child Protection Bureau Punjab Fatima Sheikh, RPO Rawalpindi Fakhar Sultan Raja, CTO Shoaib Khurram, office-bearers of NGOs working for child rights, social workers and others were also present on this occasion.

Talking to media persons on the occasion, Saba Sadiq said that child protection bureau is initiating a campaign against beggary in Rawalpindi and with the help of administration, police, traffic police, NGOs and social and political circles, destitute children involved in beggary would be taken into custody and such children would be brought to child protection bureau.

She added that Child Protection Bureau is providing shelter, food, medical and educational facilities to children who had runaway from their homes and were being used in beggary by the mafia.
She appealed to citizens to contact on helpline of Child Protection Bureau 1121 to stop exploitation of the child rights by the beggar mafia.

Saba Sadiq emphasised that beggary, forced labour and violence against children are very significant issues and these are also cognizable offences under law.

She said that fifty percent children are recovered with the help of media as it plays vital role in pinpointing beggary on various roads and squares in big cities.

She informed that team of Child Protection Bureau reaches the spot within one hour whenever any complaint or information regarding destitute or runway children and violence against children is received.

She asked police, especially traffic police, to extend assistance to teams of child protection bureau for controlling beggary and recovery of children who are involved or used in beggary.

She said that Child Protection Bureau does its best for finding out parents of children who have runway from their homes because of fear or violence.

She said that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has given instructions to ensure free education up to matric level for such children.

She also said that Child Protection Bureau is trying to stop exploitation of the child rights.
