Chief Justice asked to take suo moto action on APP affairs
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has been approached for suo moto action on alleged ‘mismanagement and corruption’ in the state-owned Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) to save it from complete disaster.
In a 3-page complaint No POS 5906/G dated Sept 3, 2012, for initiation of suo moto proceedings, the CJ’s attention is also been drawn towards “illegal appointments, Provident Fund Pilferage and violation of orders of the superior judiciary.”
“Illegal acts have seriously undermined the future of hundreds of employees, who have worked hard to bring a good name to the country and the news organization,” reads the application moved by a Karachi-based Senior APP member Ashfaqur Rehman Qureshi.
“Yes I have sent the complaint to the CJ for initiating an action into the worst situation prevailing in the APP,” Ashfaqur Rehman Qureshi confirmed when The News contacted him. “A formal petition will also be moved in the SC shortly.”
