Cheques of Rs 5,000 each given to 1,000 women IDPs

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal (PBM) and the Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education have distributed cheques of Rs 5,000 each to 1,000 women IDPs living in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The government has allocated an amount of Rs 500 million for 100,000 displaced families at various relief camps while 45,000 families have been benefited so far, said PBM Managing Director Zamarrud Khan while addressing the cheque distribution ceremony here at Al-Farabi Special Education Center.

Khan said that the government would soon launch a scheme of giving the financial assistance of Rs 25,000 to each of the IDPs families. The Ministry of Social Welfare and Special Education and PBM have set up various centers at all the IDPs camps with a prime objective of providing education, entertainment and vocational training to these families at the camps,” he added.

He said the government has also announced separate package for disabled families and those mothers who are living with their new-borns. In this regard, PBM will shift such families to various social welfare centers lying vacant due to summer vacations.

The persons with disabilities and their families would be provided medical facilities and basic needs of life in these centers. Besides welfare programmes of women and children, the relief activities for the disabled were top priority for the government and PBM was providing them a family meal package, white canes, wheelchairs and tools for hearing impaired persons, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Social Welfare and Special Education, Samina Khalid Ghurki said the objective of distributing the relief amount was to facilitate those residing outside or away from camps. “The government would continue to provide all kind of assistance to IDPs and bear all their expenses till their complete rehabilitation,” she added.
