Chehlum procession angered by Danish blasphemy

The Chehlum of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) was observed on Thursday with usual religious fervour and solemnity.

At about 1.00 p.m, a central procession of the Chehlum was brought out from Nishtar Park, which, after going through its traditional route of M.A. Jinnah Road, Saddar and old city areas, terminated at Imambargah Hussainiyah Iranian Kharadar after Maghrib prayers.

Special arrangements were made throughout the passage of procession to ensure safety and security of the mourners and other participants of the procession.

The volunteers from scouts and other welfare organisations of the Shia community were deployed throughout M.A. Jinnah Road and Saddar localities to facilitate the mourners and provide them with any emergency medical aid in case of any eventuality.

Participants of the procession, after offering Namaz-e-Zuhrain outside Imambargah Ali Raza on M.A. Jinnah Road, chanted slogans against the hegemonic and anti-Islam designs of the United States, Israel and Denmark.

They also protested against the recent killing of Hezbollah leader Imad Mughniyeh in Syria in a car bomb blast.

Speakers demanded that the rulers in Pakistan should adopt a firm and strict line of action against re-printing of blasphemous caricatures by the Danish newspapers.

They demanded that the relevant global forums, including the United Nations and Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC), be moved to convey a stern warning message to the European nations whose press, for the second time, wilfully committed the act of blatant blasphemy.

Some furious participants of the procession set the flags of the USA, Denmark and Israel on fire.

Earlier, around midday, the central congregation of Chehlum was held at Nishtar Park where noted religious scholar Allama Talib Jauhri shed light on the supreme cause and message of the martyrdom of the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his 72 companions in Karbala against the tyrannical forces of Yazid.

He said that it is high time that the spirit of the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions should be reinvigorated to save the whole humanity from the vicious circle of exploitation and oppression at the hands of global imperialist forces.

He warned that Western and European countries should refrain from committing the criminal act of blasphemy as no one would be allowed to conspire to diminish the sanctity and honour of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his pious family.
