Chaudhry Nisar raises ban on Geo Super in NA again
ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan continued to raise his voice against the closure of the country’s only sports channel, Geo Super, in the National Assembly on Wednesday asking the government why it had made the channel’s restoration an ego-issue.
Speaking in the House, Chaudhry Nisar said the issue of closure of Geo Super had turned into an issue of the ego of one individual. “What is the reason that a sports channel is not allowed to transmit from Pakistan and why is the independent voice of the media not being tolerated,” he questioned.
He said as earlier proposed to the government, it should allow the transmission of Geo Super from Pakistan as a goodwill gesture. He, however, lamented that no one took his proposal seriously. It may be recalled that Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan had also taken up the issue of closure of Geo Super on the floor of the House last week urging the prime minister to himself intervene in the matter. However, Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani had passed the buck to the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on Information saying the committee was looking into the matter and will present its report in the House.
