Charsadda journalists protest against police

PESHAWAR: The journalists from Charsadda district on Tuesday staged protest against the excesses of the police and asked the chief justice of the Peshawar High Court to take note of the matter.

Led by president Gandhara Union of Journalists (GUJ) Sabz Ali Tareen, president Shaheen Union of Journalist (SUJ) Nusrat Hussain Toofan and president Charsadda Electronic Media Association (CEA) Zahidullah, the protesting journalists staged sit-in outside the Peshawar Press Club.

They accused the police of lodging false cases against the journalists and creating hurdles for the journalists by restraining them from performing their duties.

They said the police was victimising the journalists for exposing the criminal elements in Charsadda and had implicated various journalists in false cases. They termed the police highhandedness an attack on the freedom of expression and asked the government and inspector general of police to take notice of the highhandedness of local police.They also announced to hold protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Islamabad and outside the Parliament House to record their protest.
