Chaos in Pakistan Telecommunication Authority after sacking of chairman

By: Zubair Kasuri

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) nowadays is facing worst ever managerial crunch of the history as the PTA is running without a chairman.

PTA Director General (Enforcement) Sajjad Latif Awan has written a letter to Nasrul Karim Ghaznavi, Member Finance, and Dr Khawar Siddique Khokhar, Member Technical, to stay within their limits given by PTA rules, and not act as chairmen of the Authority.

The Lahore High Court had removed PTA Chairman Muhammad Farooq Awan.In absence of chairman, Ghaznavi was given the administrative control of the authority, while both the Members have power to make certain administrative decisions at the PTA as per law.

The government has differences with both the Members, and has apparently decided to keep the PTA without chairman as both the Members are retiring next month. The government would fill the post after advertising job.
