Cellphone: source of trouble

CELLPHONE has become a necessity these days, but is also a nuisance, especially for women because of anonymous and unwanted calls for harassment. There is a silent majority which is suffering from this menace.

People, especially women, continuously receive obnoxious phone calls, forcing them to talk. In case of refusal, they receive threatening and vulgar text messages that cause great mental aguish.

Since the boom of the telecommunications industry, cellular network providers are offering cheap ‘night packages’, while a number of SMS offers have also encouraged obnoxious callers to harass which even causes psychological problems for victims.

The government has recently announced to filter obscene words from text messages. I appreciate the ban on obscene SMS as this is big problem for women in Pakistan.

It is also being considered a trick by the government to monitor the messages. Some are of the view that it is an open violation of human rights. But I think this should not be a bone of contention.
