Case against Geo, others dismissed on court order

Pakistan Press Foundation

MULTAN: Chahlaik Police Station has discharged the case against Geo TV owners, morning show host Shaista Lodhi, Veena Malik, Asad Khattak and other staff on order of the court.

According to Investigation Officer Nazar Muhammad appointed in Chahlaik Police Station, the programme was aired from Karachi and a relevant case was registered in the same city. According to the law, only one case can be registered for a single incident and it is improper to lodge a case in more than one city. The court agreed to this point of view and withdrew the case.

It merits mentioning here that the case was registered in response to the writ filed in the court by lawyer Iqbal Mehdi, in which Mehdi held that the owners of Geo, Shaista Lodhi, Veena Malik, Asad Khattak, and other staff committed blasphemy in the morning show. On his request, the case was registered in Chahlaik Police Station, and was withdrawn subsequently.
