Cancellation of 212 dailies’ declaration recommended

KARACHI- The Sindh government has recommended the cancellation of 212 daily newspapers’ declarations, including Urdu, English, Sindhi, and Gujerati newspapers and asked the concerned district magistrates to cancel these declarations according to law.

The Director, information, Sindh, S M Iqbal who is holding the additional charge of director, press, has prepared a list of 400 daily newspapers for cancellation of declaration due to regular violation of rules and procedures.

The Sindh Information Department earlier recommended a list of 177 daily newspaper last month for cancellation of declaration.

According to officials, the concerned authorities issued about 500 declarations for the daily newspapers in Sindh and the Information Department after a detail scrutiny recommended the concerned district magistrates should cancel the declarations of these.

Official sources said that warning notices were being issued to more than 1,000 periodicals to submit their copies regularly or face cancellation of declaration.

The officials said that a number of complaints were received that many persons had obtained declarations of dailies and periodicals in different names but failed to publish regularly. It has also been reported that many people use these publications for purposes of blackmail, browbeating institutions on the basis fabricated news to extract advertisements.

The officials said the action, had been initiated against these elements in the best interest of general public. They also said the scrutiny of more papers was in progress and action would be taken on completion of the legal process.

According to list provided to the newspapers Dawn (Gujerati), Edhi News Bulletin, Guardian, Inqilab, Jaago, Karachi Express, Mohasaba, Muslim, Pukar, Pakistan, Koshish, Sindh Express, Imroz, Mashriq, Nai Roshni, Savera, Sun, and The Pakistan Times names also included in the list.
