Call for promoting Sindhi culture, literature
HYDERABAD: Intellectuals, writers and academicians have called for opening up branches of the Institute of Sindhology in every divisional headquarters of Sindh to promote the Sindhi culture, literature and language.
They said everybody working in any capacity should perform their duties in a befitting manner instead of pleasing bosses.
Sindh could only develop and progress with the honest working of individuals in their particular fields, they added.
They were speaking at a programme organised on Monday by the Institute of Sindhology, University of Sindh Jamshoro, where another book corner was set up in the name of Engineer Rafique Ahmed Memon and was inaugurated by comrade Jam Saqi.
Engr Rafique handed over some 1,600 unique books written in Sindhi, Hindi, Urdu, English and other languages to the institute.
Speaking on the occasion, Jam Saqi said the Institute of Sindhology was the centre of knowledge and Sindhi
culture which needed to be enhanced further by opening up its various branches at least in every divisional headquarters of the province.
“In order to disseminate knowledge, provide material for research on every topic and promote culture as well as literature, branches of the institute ought to be opened up in every divisional headquarters. It’s necessary; it is need of the hour,” he believed.
Educationist Dr Kazi Khadim Hussain said the Sindhi language was strong and there was no fear of its decline, adding that a lot of work had been done on Sindhi language and literature which were preserved. Defining the term Sindhology as the ‘knowledge of Sindh’, he said the research should be conducted on every subject in order to discover more things about Sindh.
He said it was not necessary to please bosses in the educational and national institutions rather than doing one’s own business honestly.
Short-story writer Shaukat Hussain Shoro said Engr Rafique handed over unique books to the research library of Sindhology which he hoped would be beneficial for the new generation.
He said once he visited the Sunday book fair at Saddar, Karachi, from where he bought a book in which the best complements for Hidayatullah Qureshi were found in the hand writing of Sain G.M Syed along with his signature.
If such books were sold out, what would become of this nation, he asked.
Institute’s Director Saeed Ahmed Mangi termed
Engr Memon education-friendly and said more corners would be set up in the research library of the Institute of Sindhology in order to introduce eminent personalities of Sindh to the new generation.
Allah Bachayo Memon, Dr Abdullah Dayo, Dr Javed Iqbal, Dr Nagina Parveen, Prof Hidayatullah Memon, Col Retired Gul Hassan, Farah Baloch, Fahim Noonari, Umeed Ali Rind and Prof Ghulam Ali Buriro also participated in the programme.
