Cable operators to be instructed to air PTV-1: Jabbar

ISLAMABAD- Federal Information Minister Javed Jabbar has said the cable operators will be instructed to include PTV-1 channel in their package to meet the growing demand of the audiences across the country.

We will raise the issue with the Pakistan Tele-communication Authority (PTA) to issue the instruction and also monitor it,” he said, while speaking at the PTV’s General Managers Conference held to review the performance of the previous quarter and plans for the next quarter at the PTV headquarters.

Jabbar said as per the terms of the licences it is obligatory for the cable operators to show PTV programmes.

Jabbar appreciated the PTV efforts for giving representation to the people of those areas, which were neglected in the past. “It is the point of concern that the forces of darkness, which are representing only five per cent of the total population are more organized in expressing their viewpoints. They are creating scenes of despair and disunity. The PTV should make efforts to project those people, who represent 95 per cent of the population,” the minister said. The minister also called for giving due representation to women on PTV.

Appreciating the efforts for generating more revenues and collecting arrears, Jabber agreed to a suggestion that the Marketing Department of the PTV must be equipped with new software to compete in the market.

Earlier, the member was given a detailed briefing on the performance of the PTV during the ongoing quarter and the plans for the next three months (October-December).
