Cable operators end strike

KARACHI: Chairman Cable Operators Association of Pakistan (COAP), Khalid Sheikh, and other representatives said that the COAP had ended the strike on the assurances of the government. They said that the federal minister, Sheikh Rasheed, and Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) were now ready to talk to COAP on the serious issues being faced by the cable operators. Khalid Sheikh pointed out that COAP and PEMRA would hold talks in the first week of September. Meanwhile, Sindh Cable TV Operators Welfare Association (SCOWA) termed the strike unsuccessful. SCOWA President Hanif Ghani said the strikers had announced to observe the strike for a week (from August 24 to September 1), but now they had ended it on the grounds that they had not demanded of the government to allow them to show ‘foreign channels.
