Cabinet for Youtube pact to block profane material, says Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said Wednesday that Federal Cabinet has proposed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to enter into an agreement with Youtube website to for blocking any sacrilegious material.

Replying to media persons questions after the cabinet meeting,Kaira said that the government has blocked the entire Youtube in the country as the PTA had no agreement with Youtube to block the required links only.

The minister said that no Muslim can tolerate any sacrilegious material against the Holy Prophet (SAW).To a question; he said that it was responsibility of the government of the country where this movie was prepared and uploaded to take strict action against the culprits.

“The culprits involved in the production,exhibition and uploading of the film on the internet should be brought to book and no leniency should be shown to them”,the minister added. He said that no government in the world was supporting the culprits involved in this crime, rather they were condemning this unholy act, so it would not be justified to expel any ambassador.

He said that holiday announced on Friday was only to observe the day as protest day in connection with the anti-Islam film and provinces and private sector business community was also being approached to observe the day.

However he appealed to the nation to remain peaceful during protests, marches and rallies and damaging our own property will serve no purpose. He said not only US ambassador in Pakistan, but US ministers and President also have strongly condemned the film.

He also said that there was a proposal to hold an emergent meeting of Pakistani ambassadors to discuss the issue. He also supported the idea to summon the US ambassador to Pakistan in Foreign Office to lodge a strong protest.

To a question, he said that sentiments of entire Muslim Ummah were hurt by the sacrilegious movie but it was time the Muslim world should shun all types of differences and get united so that they have a strong say in the affairs of the world.

Replying to a question, he said that Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will address “Shan-e-Rasool (SAW) Conference on Friday here. Kaira said that the government of Pakistan, Parliament, provincial governments and national institutions including armed forces were striving to overcome the scourge of terrorism in the country.

He said that now the terrorists are on the run, but in 2008 when the present government came into power, they had occupied Swat and there were fear that they will come to Islamabad as well. To a question about Baldia Town Karachi factory fire, he said that so far its report has not been submitted.

Moreover it was provincial matter but the federal government will fulfil its responsibilities over the matter. About the letter to be written by Law Minister to Swiss authorities, he said that Farooq H Naek will present the draft of the letter in the Supreme Court on September, 25.
