Bush hopes Pearl ‘still alive’
WASHINGTON- President George W. Bush hopes “very deeply” that abducted US reported Daniel Pearl is still alive, the White House said Thursday after the chief suspect in his kidnapping said the journalist was dead.
“We’ve heard those reports. There is no confirmation of that, we cannot confirm that,” Bush spokesman Ari Fleischer told reporters. “Obviously, the President hopes very deeply that Pearl is still alive.”
“We continue to do everything possible with Pakistan to bring him home, where he belongs,” the spokesman said.
