Body to look into ban on Pak newspapers in Afghanistan

PESHAWAR: The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has said it was aware of the ban on the Pakistani newspapers in Afghanistan and added a committee would be formed to address the issue.

According to an Afghan Islamic Press despatch, deputy spokesman for Foreign Ministry Dr Faramarz Tamanna told a press conference in Kabul that the authorities had come to know about the issue through the government of Pakistan. He said a committee would be formed and an understanding would be reached with Pakistan on the issue.

He, however, added propagation of publications of any language without the consent of the government of Afghanistan was a crime. He said the government of Afghanistan would never allow such publications to enter the country.

Afghanistan banned the Pakistani newspapers two days ago in eastern provinces of the country, accusing them of having links with the armed opponents. Besides Urdu and English language newspapers of Pakistan, some Pashto newspapers are also read in eastern provinces of Afghanistan.
