Blasphemy case against woman
LAYYAH: The police have registered a blasphemy case against a 55-year-old woman on the direction of a local court.
The Chowk Azam police registered the case against Ameera Bibi of 393-TDA under Section 290-A of the PPC on the complaint of Syed Shabbir Ahmad Shah.
According to the FIR, the accused had uttered derogatory remarks against Allah Almighty and the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him). The police arrested Ameera on April 6.
Later, the police produced the accused woman in the court of Civil Judge Abdul Sattar. The court directed the police to convert the Section 290-A into Section 295-C of PPC.
The police made the change and sent the accused to jail on judicial remand. Dawn has learnt that the complainant and the accused had a previous dispute in which Ameera Bibi had approached the police.
She had alleged that Shabbir’s son with an accomplice had robbed her daughter-in-law of cash and valuables.
Later, Ameera’s son Abdul Haq moved the Layyah district and sessions judge in the matter.
The judge had asked the police to submit their comments, but the police denied that any such robbery had taken place.
Sometime later an edict apparently issued by a local religious scholar started making the rounds in the area. The edict accused Ameera Bibi of committing blasphemy.
