Blasphemous caricatures: protest demonstrations held in Multan
MULTAN (February 29 2008): Students of a local religious seminary and activists of Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan on Thursday staged a demonstration at Qasim Bagh (Old Fort) to register their protest against the reprinting of blasphemous caricatures in the Danish and European newspapers.
More than 100 students of ‘Madressah Khairul-Ma’ad’ and activists of JUP took part in the demo and shouted slogans against the United States, European states and Danish government. The protestors burnt the flags of US and Denmark.
Qari Muhammad Mian leading the demo said, “we are ready to sacrifice our lives for this sacred cause and we will continue our protest till we do not achieve our objective.” He added that they are not against the freedom of press and expression but they cannot allow injuring the religious sentiments of any section of the society.
