Bill in line with Quran, Sunnah: PM, president

ISLAMABAD, September 08 2006: President Gen Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz have said that the women protection bill 2006 is completely in line with the injunctions of the Holy Quran and Sunnah and criticized some lawmakers for using the issue for political gains. The prime minister called on the president at the Presidential camp office in Rawalpindi on Friday. They expressed unanimity of opinion that the bill was in accordance with the teaching of Islam and that the government could not even think about forming laws in contradiction to the injunctions of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. They hoped parliament would get the bill passed that.

Mr. Aziz told President Musharraf that talks with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal were under way for removing their apprehensions. They also exchanged views on matters of mutual interest and significant political and national issues. Sources said that the Mr. Aziz took President Musharraf into confidence on his visit to Norway, Britain and Lebanon and termed the visits successful. President Musharraf also informed the premier of the outcome of his visit to Afghanistan.

The sources said that the president’s scheduled trip to USA, EU and participation in the Non-Aligned Movement Conference in Cuba also came under discussion. Gen Musharraf told Mr. Aziz of his intention of resuming the process of composite dialogue with India in an expected meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the NAM Conference. –Online
