Bill against honour killing soon

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain terming Karo-kari a social evil has taken a serious notice of such cases and vowed to eradicate the menace from the country.

Talking to a delegation here on Saturday Chaudhry Shujaat pledged every support to the Karo-kari victims.

Mr Hussain said protection of life and property was the responsibility of the state, which the government would fulfil at every cost.

He said a bill would be soon introduced in parliament to deal with this menace and those involved in Karo-kari would be dealt with severely.

The delegation informed the prime minister about the details of a Karo-kari case in Nowsher Feroz. They said the police had registered a complaint, but no action was taken against those who abducted the girl.

MNAs Mehnaz Rafi, Dr Ghulam Mustafa Solangi and Dr Amanat Solangi comprised the delegation.

Meanwhile, talking to a large number of parliamentarians, who jointly called on him, the prime minister urged upon them to devote their time and energy in resolving problems of the people in their respective constituencies.

Mr Hussain asked them to work to redress public grievances specially relating to the provision of basic social services.

He renewed commitment of the government that due importance will be given to the development schemes identified by the elected representatives for their respective areas.

The parliamentarians apprised the prime minister about the progress on various development schemes of gas, electricity and roads in their constituencies.

While talking to Speaker of Balochistan Assembly, Jamal Shah Kakar and Senator Mir Muhammad Naseer Mengal, who called on him, the PM said that CNG facility would be provided to Zhob on priority basis and added that development of under-developed areas was on top of the government’s agenda.

Mr Hussain said the government had allocated Rs202 billion for development projects in the current budget that shows government’s commitment towards the uplift of all areas.

The meeting discussed various development projects in Balochistan and a demand was made for provision of CNG facility to District Zhob.
