Bail pleas rejected in gang-rape case

KARACHI: A district and sessions court on Wednesday dismissed the bail applications of two men in a gang-rape case.

They along with their accomplices were booked for subjecting 18-year-old Nasima Lubano to a sexual assault in January 2007 in Ghotki district.

The men, who had been declared absconders by the district and sessions court, got protective bail from the high court and approached the trial court.

However, district and sessions judge (south) Hasan Feroz dismissed the pleas after hearing arguments from both sides. Following the pronouncement of the order, the men were taken into custody and sent to prison.

In January 2010, the court had sentenced Anwar Hussain to life imprisonment and declared three others, including the two men, absconders.

The court also acquitted six other accused in the case.

According to the prosecution, the accused men armed with weapons had barged into the house of the victim on Jan 27, 2007 and took her to a residence where she was subjected to gang-rape.

A case (FIR No 07/2007) was registered against the accused at the Ubaro police station.
