Awais Leghari inaugurates IT development unit
ISLAMABAD, June 16 2005: Federal Minister for Information Technology Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari here on June 15 inaugurated a project ‘National IT Development and Promotion Unit’.
Under this project, several working groups would be set up to deliberate on important national initiatives pertaining to Information Technology and come up with concrete workplans for followup activities.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the focus of the working groups would be on generating ideas that would lead to improving the services to the citizens and extending the benefits of the ICT revolution to the common man.
He stressed the importance of content development which would provide information of interest to the citizens. He urged the NIDU to focus on legislative issues, development of local content, e-commerce and the information security.
Awais said the government was aware of the security of transactions over the internet and called for a concerted and national level response to counter the growing threat of insecure networks, intrusions, web-page defacements and other such issues.
He stressed that Urdu language should be used widely in local content and arrangements should be made to provide support to the local market for the development of e-content in Urdu language to promote linguistic and cultural diversity on the global networks.
