Attack on journalists condemned

SUKKAR- An emergency meeting of Sukkur Union of Journalists was held under the chairmanship of Shamim Shamsi. The meeting strongly condemned the attack on senior journalist and Bureau Chief Daily Ummat Hyderabad Abdul Hafeez Abid and appealed to the governor of Sindh to take immediate steps for the safty of journalists of Sindh.

The meeting, through a resolution, held that vested interests were behind such cowardly attacks on journalists in the past who were only doing their duty in a professional manner. The meeting deplored non-serious approach of the authorities to deal with the terrorist elements who had specially targeted the people engaged in the field of journalism.

This had, therefore, encouraged those elements to continue onslaught against mediamen. It also referred to the incident of senior journalist Mohammad Salahuddin, who also was gunned down in a similar fashion a couple of years ago and so far his killers remained untraced and unpunished. The union deeply sympathised with Abdul Hafiz Abid, and prayed for his son, who was also injured in the firing by attackers.
