Arrests made over young girl’s marriage

TOBA TEK SINGH: Kamalia Saddar police on Sunday arrested four Panchayat members who ordered the marriage of an eight-year-old girl with a 35-year-old man.

Falak Sher allegedly abducted Nasim Bibi and married her 10 days ago. The abducteeís family called a Panchayat to settle issue. The Panchayat members ñ Nazir, Zahoor, Yaqoob and Yousaf ñ allegedly married the abductorís sister Rehana with Saleem, the brother of Nasim Bibi, as compensation.

Rehana was sent to the house of her husband Saleem on May 2. However, she came back to her parents’ house after staying in the house of her husband for an hour. The police have registered a case under Section 365-A of the PPC on the complaint of Rehanaís father Liaqat Ali. The police have also arrested the bridegroom.
