Appointment of two deputy chairmen illegal: Nadra chief

ISLAMABAD: Chairman National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) Tariq Malik has told the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) that the appointment of two deputy chairmen in the authority was in violation of its law.
He said this in a letter to PAC chairman PAC Nadeem Afzal Gondal, who had earlier asked Nadra under what rules two deputy chairmen — Dr Tahir Ikram and Naveed Jan — were working in Nadra.
Interior Minister Rehman Malik when he was an adviser to PM on Interior, issued the notification on July 23 for the promotion of these officials to the posts of deputy chairmen.According to sources, in his letter Tariq Malik has informed the PAC that there is no provision in the Nadra ordinance for a deputy chairman and that the promotions of Dr Tahir Ikram and Naveed Jan were against the rules and law.
Sources said it was mentioned in the letter the interior ministry has no power to make any appointment in Nadra. ‘The interior ministry has been requested to de-notify these posts,” sources quoting chairman Nadra said.
