Appeals of convicts in Pearl case put off

KARACHI: The hearing of two appeals, one filed by convicts in Daniel Pearl kidnap-ping and murder case and another filed by state for enhancement of life terms to death sentence, was once again put off till October 21 by an Anti-Terrorism Appellate (ATA) bench of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday.

When the appeals came up for hearing, Rai Bashir advocate from Lahore and counsel for main accused Ahmed Omar Sheikh was not present. The bench, comprising Justice Ghulain Nabi Soomro and Justice Muhammad Afzal Soomro, asked the other defense counsel to convey next date of hearing to counsel.

The same bench also put off hearing of appeals filed by seven accused in Mehfil-e-Murtaza carnage case till October 02.
