APNS, PFUJ delegations meet Kaira

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira has said that the present government of PPP is determined to lead all efforts for the development of free and independent media in country and the government would continue to keep close co-ordination with journalist community.

He expressed these views while talking to delegations of All Pakistan Newspaper Society APNS and Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists PFUJ here in his offices on Thursday. The APNS delegation was led by its President Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami and Pervaiz Shaukat led PFUJ delegation.

Talking to the delegations, the Federal Information Minister said that the PPP government’s stress on a free and independent media is to ensure the strengthening of democracy in the country. He said “being a democratic government, we are deeply invested in strengthening all institutions that contribute to a healthy democracy.”

The Information Minister urged the media bodies to take into account the emerging and future challenges related to media both in the national and international domain to ensure a quick and adequate response to the constant changes in the media environment.

Issues of non-implementation of 7th Wage Board Award, non payment of salaries to newspaper employees, formation of rules for Journalist Victim Fund and other problems faced by journalist community were discussed. Syed Sumsam Ali Shah Bukhari, Minister of State and Azeem Daultana, Parliamentary Secretary for Information and Broadcasting and other officials of the ministry also attended the meeting.
