APNS, CPNE form JAC against ads ban

KARACHI, June 08 2005: The APNS-CPNE have formed a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to initiate a series of protest actions if the government fails to withdraw ban on advertisements to newspapers by June 15, stated a resolution adopted by the joint meeting of the APNS and the CPNE.

The Executive Committee of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society and the Standing Committee of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors held a joint emergency meeting at Lahore to discuss stoppage of government advertisements to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt/ The Nation, Daily Dawn and other newspapers.

The joint meeting in a resolution has urged upon the government to withdraw the ban on government advertisements to Daily Nawa-i-Waqt/The Nation, Daily Dawn, Daily Sahafat, Daily Ausaf, Daily Business Report and Daily Frontier Post by June 15, 2005. In this respect, a Joint Action Committee was formed, the members of which, will be nominated by the Presidents of APNS and CPNE, to launch a protest campaign if the ads were not restored by the deadline. The Joint Action Committee was authorised to decide and implement protest strategies including approaching local and international forums, convening of general bodies of APNS and CPNE, holding a demonstration of editors and publishers across the country in front of the President, Prime Minister and Parliament Houses, boycott of official functions, meetings and Press conferences, observing a black-day and a protest strike of all newspapers.
