APNS-CPNE delegation calls on Sheikh Rashid
ISLAMABAD, February 07 2006: A delegation of All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) and Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) on Monday February 6 called on Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sh Rashid Ahmed.
Secretary Information Shahid Rafi, designate Chairman of Press Council Justice, Nazir Akhtar and Principal Information Officer Ashfaq Gondal were also present.
The delegation included, President CPNE Arif Nizami, Senior Vice President APNS Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami, Vice President APNS Fasih Iqbal and general secretaries of both APNS and CPNE Qazi Aslam and Qazi Asad Abid.
The minister said the media and the government enjoy good relations. He said the government was following the policy of free media and a number of steps have been taken to ensure it.
He said the purpose for the constitution of Press Council is to safeguard the rights of the people as well as the press and sincere efforts are being taken in this regard.
Designate Chairman of Press Council Justice, Nazir Akhtar told the minister about aims and objectives of the council.
Various proposals for the smooth functioning of the newly constituted body also came under discussion.
