Another minor raped and murdered

Karachi: Yet another child has fallen into the clutches of a sexual predator, as the strangled body of a five-year-old girl was found at an empty plot in Muslimabad on Sunday. Medical experts said that the minor had been gang-raped before she was strangled.

The medico-legal officer (MLO) of the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital said that the body of five-year-old Saima, daughter of Syed Kareem Gul, was at least three-days-old. She also said that the girl’s body bore torture marks and confirmed that the victim had been gang-raped.

The police said that the murdered minor was kidnapped on February 21, 2012, by unidentified men from the Muslimabad area. Her family first searched for her and then finally landed up at the Pirabad police station to register an FIR against unidentified abductors. However, much to their horror, their daughter’s body was found on Sunday.

This is the second case of a child being subjected to sexual abuse this week. The police arrested a man on Thursday night for sodomising a four-year-old boy in Lines Area.

According to data collected by the War against Rape (WAR), from the period of January till June, 2011, some 41 cases of rape were reported and the number of younger children being assaulted is on an alarming rise. The report reveals that 27 percent of the rape cases in this period involve children aged between six and eleven years.

These are not the only incidents of child-rape in the recent past. Six-year-old Alishba was kidnapped, raped and murdered at the end of last year. Not only had the girl been raped by her abductors, but one of her eyes was gorged out with a sharp instrument.
