Alleged abuse of foreign worker: Police arrest one more suspect in rape case
KARACHI: Investigators looking into the rape case of a 30-year-old Filipina maid in Clifton detained another suspect, Mansoor, on Sunday following the statement of the complainant, M. The maid was allegedly raped at her apartment in Gizri on Thursday by Mumtaz Baloch, who is already in police custody and has been sent on remand till February 25.
According to M, Mansoor lives in the same building as her and is the one who let the alleged rapists into the building. “It was night and I couldn’t see the men’s faces clearly. But I knew they had a gun and feared that they would kill me if I did not open the door,” said Mansoor. “My only fault is that to save my life, I opened the door.”
The Investigation officer, inspector Irshad Karim, while talking to The Express Tribune said that they cannot say for sure what Mansoor’s intentions were but directly or indirectly, he helped the suspects. “We have detained Mansoor for helping the suspects – whether he did it on purpose or out of fear is another matter.”
Police are looking for two more key suspects allegedly involved in the incident but the suspects and their families have reportedly gone into hiding.
