Agreement signed to set up IT Park at UoP

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board and University of Peshawar on Thursday signed an agreement to establish Information Technology Park in the university campus. The University of Peshawar (UoP) has put a proposal before the KP IT Board, which was accepted. The IT Park aimed at to open a new era for youth in the Information Technology in KP and FATA. In this regard, the University Director Planning and Development would submit a formal PC-1 to IT Board to materialise the project.

Meanwhile, two institutions signed an agreement for setting up of five incubation centres that would provide opportunity for 120 students to establish their own IT businesses in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The agreement was signed by UoP Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan and Managing Director KP IT Board, Abdul Majeed Niazi, which would be effective for next four years. Director Marketing KP IT Board, Shehnaz Shamsher and Chairman Department of Computer Science, Dr Saeed Mehfooz were also present on the occasion.

Under the agreement IT Board would provide equipment worth Rs 0.3 million for establishment of state-of-the-art software house environment for students in Computer Science Department while around two million rupees has been kept for resource persons and stipend to the trainee students.

Talking on the occasion, the IT Board Managing Director, Abdul Majeed said the purpose of the initiative was to extend financial support to IT graduates and build on their skills so that they can start their own firms. He added that particularly female students would be benefiting from the project as most of them prefer to work in a software house located at the premises of the University of Peshawar.
