After firing incident, PM orders security for TV channels

KARACHI: Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf has taken notice of the firing on the offices of a private TV channel and ordered for provision of security to all TV channels.

Federal Minister of Information Qamar Zaman Kaira has firing. Unidentified motorcyclists opened fire on a Media House that has offices of Business Recorder and Aaj News, on Monday evening, injuring two persons.

The injured were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where one of them was stated to be in critical condition.According to the eyewitnesses, two persons armed with assault weapons fired a volley of shots. One security guard and one press worker received multiple bullet injuries while the assailants escaped without facing any resistance in a highly crowded commercial neighbourhood of Guru Mandir.

Our Peshawar Bureau adds: The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for firing on the Aaj TV channel office in Karachi and warned that they would soon target other TV channels, if they did not change their attitude towards the Taliban.

“We had informed management of Aaj TV several times to include our view in issues related to us, but the channel had become a mouthpiece of the government and never gave importance to our stance. The channel had become part of the war against us for which it was punished today,” TTP spokesman Ihsanullah Ihsan said in a phone call to reporters.

The TTP spokesman said they had serious reservations about the contents of other TV channels, including Geo TV. “The Geo TV is going to be our next target if it did not change its attitude towards us. They have been using insulting language for the mujahideen and our fidayeen (suicide bombers) for which they have been warned several times. If the media did not change its attitude, the Taliban will be compelled to carry out suicide attacks against them,” he warned.
