Afreen Baig case hearing deferred

KARACHI, April 3, 2005: The Muttahidda Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) strike call affected court proceedings and hearings were ultimately deferred on April 02. The accused in Afreen Baig murder case, TV Producer and Afreen’s husband, Farooq Mengal, Khuda Bukhsh Umrani and Zahida, could not be produced before District and Sessions Judge (South), who eventually put off the hearing till April 9. Meanwhile, District and Sessions Judge (East) Zafar Ahmed Sherwani fixed April 7 to hear a case, in which Asif Ali Zardari is also accused among others. Zardari has already obtained bail in this case and now is abroad.

However, his counsels are representing him while praying to the court to exempt their client from personal appearance. The counsels have also moved an application to acquit Zardari of this murder case because no proof has ever presented against Zardari.
