Adjournment motion on journalist’s murder

ISLAMABAD: Expressing concern over the murder of journalist Muhammad Ismail Malik, the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy (ARD) on Tuesday submitted an adjournment motion in the National Assembly demanding the issue be debated in the house. Members of the ARD have stated in the adjournment motion that Malik’s murder was a cause of concern for the opposition. They said that the incident had alarmed journalists in the city and increased the feeling of insecurity among people. The motion stated that the normal agenda of the house should be adjourned and the parliamentarians should debate the issue. Malik was murdered in mysterious circumstances and his body was found lying on a green belt of F-6/1. His death was the result of a premeditated murder, according to the autopsy carried out by Dr Khawaja Waseem of the Pakistan Institute of Medical Science (PIMS). Ismail was a veteran journalist and had worked in leading news organisations, including newspapers and agencies. The adjournment motion has been signed by six ARD members of the National Assembly: Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, Fauzia Habib, Zamurd Khan and Mehreen Anwer Raja.
