Aangan Terha being staged from today

KARACHI: A stage play based on the famous 1980s TV series Aangan Terha will be staged from Feb 8 at the Arts Council Karachi auditorium. This was announced by writer of the play Anwar Maqsood at a press conference at the Arts Council on Thursday.

The play would last for 90 days. He said the production was a tribute to the senior actors who acted in the original TV version of Aangan Terha (Saleem Nasir, Shakeel, Bushra Ansari, Arshad Mahmood, Moin Akhtar and Durdana Butt) three decades back. He said it was hugely popular in 1983 and to date its charm had not worn off because it had to do with our cultural values. He claimed the play was booked for 90 days, something unprecedented in the history of Karachi theatre and added that audiences had high expectations of the play and it would live up to them.

Director of the play Dawar Mahmood also spoke. He said he was aware of the significance of the story and had carefully handled many things, including the part of Akbar (originally played by the late Salim Nasir) because these days such characters had not been portrayed in a favorable light on television.
