Aag to be restored after undertaking by Geo: Firdous
ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Tuesday that the transmission of Aag TV channel would be restored after the submission of a written statement from Geo Group to Pemra that it would not violate the content in future.
Talking to the media after attending a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Information and Broadcasting, she said the government would restructure Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) by bringing certain changes into it.
She said certain channels, engaged in defaming the government through negative propaganda, must adopt a cautious approach in this regard. Firdous said the media was playing the pivotal role in protecting rights of under-privileged segment of the society and had the responsibility to ensure rule of law in the country.
She said the government wished to complete the process of forming alliance of the PPP-led government with other political parties before the budget. She said the government wanted to take all political parties along with it to resolve problems of the masses.
“The discussion about the coalition with other parties including the MQM and the PML-Q is underway and will definitely yield positive outcomes in the best interest of the country,” she added.
