353 teachers allowed part-time media jobs

Karachi: Senior Minister for Education and Literacy Pir Mazhar ul Haq has said his department had allowed 353 teachers through a notification to work part time in the media or non-governmental organisations (NGOs) after performing their professional duties.

However, he added, they should not take undue advantage of this relaxation and must pay attention to teaching.

In a statement issued on Friday, he said that it was unfortunate that a private TV channel and its newspaper were not permitting 76 teachers to perform professional duties. The group had established a front against the education department, he claimed.

Haq added that the education department had given relaxation to the teachers to do part time work. “The media group is not permitting these teachers to perform teaching duties. On the contrary it has been publishing concocted stories against the department,” the minister said.

He said that the Sindh education department had earlier issued an order to terminate these 353 teachers; however, they were allowed to do part-time job after performing their professional duties.
