22nd All Pakistan Newspapers Society Journalist Awards open for entries

Karachi: The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) on Saturday announced the categories for the 22nd APNS Journalist Awards, and requested reporters, photographers and cartoonists of member publications to submit their entries for any one of the categories.

In a statement, APNS Secretary General Masood Hamid said the editors and chief executives of member publications could also send entries on behalf of their journalists for the contest.

The participants are not allowed to send entries for more than one category. The entries should have appeared in member publications between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012. Following are the categories:

There are three categories for best report – investigative report, business/economic report and environmental conservation/gender report.

There are three awards for best columns. One column will be chosen from English language dailies, one from Urdu language dailies and one from provincial language dailies.

Three best feature stories will be awarded, one each from English language publications, Urdu language publications and provincial language publications. Other categories are – the best illustration for periodicals, the best cover story for periodicals, the best cartoon, and the best photograph.

The APNS secretary general said the participants should send three entries in any one category (six copies of each entry) published in member publications during the aforementioned period.

The entries must be submitted having composed/typed on separate sheets without giving the name of the author and publication along with a tear-sheet copy of the publication. For regional language entries for the best report, the entrants are required to submit an Urdu/English translation of the entry as well.

Hamid further announced that the sending of the entries should be the responsibility of the individual and only in case where the names of participants had not appear in the byline, the entry should be counter-signed by the competent authority at the publication.

All entries should reach the APNS Secretariat by January 31. The entries should be addressed to Anwar Farooqui, Chairman, APNS Awards Committee, ST-1/E, Block-16, KDA Scheme No 36, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Karachi (Ph: 34012491-3).
