Ministry of climate change seeks funds for projects
Islamabad: The ministry of climate change is approaching the Planning Commission as well as other international climate change funding channels like Green Climate Fund to get funds required for work on various ongoing projects.
The spokesman for the climate change ministry said the ongoing project include sustainable and green cities, sustainable land management programme to combat desertification, establishment of geomatic centre for climate change and sustainable development and establishment of climate change transparent forest surveys reporting unit.
He said the federal government has budgeted Rs 1,027 million for the ministry of climate change in the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) 2016-17 for two ongoing and one new scheme.
“The budgeted amount for the ongoing projects namely Establishment of Geomatic Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Development and Sustainable Land Management Programme to Combat Desertification in Pakistan are Rs10 million and Rs17 million respectively,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the ministry of climate change received an additional grant worth Rs. 580 million other than the allocated grant of Rs. 460 million in last fiscal year 2015-16 for its projects to cope with the growing challenges of the climate change.
