Chinese youth involved in cyber crime sent to jail
Karachi A local court on Thursday sent a young Chinese citizen, who is allegedly involved in stealing ATM data from a private bank, to jail on 14-day judicial remand. The Cyber Crime Cell of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested Chinese citizen Xie Yi after the agency was informed by the bank authorities about suspicious activities of foreigners in an ATM service.
The Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) recorded that two Chinese citizens had spent unduly long time at an ATM service of a private bank in its Plaza Square Branch. The bank authorities informed the FIA, which found two skimming devices which were put to detect consumers secret code used for transactions.
After a few hours, the foreigner, Xie Yi, visited the site again but he was nabbed by the FIA´s Cyber Crime Cell. However, his accomplice is still at large. According to the FIA, it was an attempt to access the bank data with the skimming device. During the hearing on Thursday, the court sent the accused to jail on judicial remand for 14 days. The case was registered under sections of Electronic Transactions Ordinance and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (using as genuine a forged documents) of Pakistan Penal Code.
