The Sindh High Court on Friday reserved its verdict on a petition filed by film Malik’s director, challenging country-wide ban on his first. The SHC bench, headed by Chief Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, reserved its verdict after the petitioner’s counsel Barrister Farogh Nasim and government lawyer completed their arguments. The date of judgement’s pronouncement will be fixed later.

Earlier, the director of the film had moved the court against the government for banning Malik from screening all over the country. The Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage had declared the film uncertified according to section 9 of the Motion Pictures Ordinance, 1979. The petitioner submitted that he had spent Rs 40 million on the film adding that he had obtained clearance certificate from censor Board, therefore the ban is illegal and unjustified. He prayed to the court to suspend the operation of notification that banned the film and allow the screening of Malik all over the country. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in its reply to the court had submitted that the film Malik is against the spirit of national action plan as it projected ‘ Celebrated and Heroic death of Afghan Mujahid’.
