Pemra okays loop-holders policy, gives go-ahead for issuance of licences
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) in its 115th meeting on Wednesday approved loop-holders policy and gave go ahead for issuance of licences for promotion of cable TV in the country. According to a Pemra press release this decision will be helpful in providing cable TV facility to far off areas of the country and provide business opportunities to small investors. The authority also gave approval to IPTV licensing policy under which the country will be divided in three parts to ensure maximum opportunities for investment. This decision will help in providing latest facilities to far flung areas especially Balochistan. The Authority was briefed about the ban on re-enactment of crime scenes and its implementation status.
The authority empowered the chairman Pemra under Pemra Ordinance 2002 Section 3 for immediate implementation of Council of Complaints decisions.The purpose of the decision was to ensure timely implementation of COC and improve Pemra’s writ. Chairman Pemra Absar Alam briefed the meeting about the achievement of revenue target of the institution and proposed reward for the hardworking staff and officers. He also briefed the meeting about the public service messaging and Direct to Home service policies and indicated that their implementation will be ensured.The meeting was attended among others by Secretary Information and Broadcasting Syed Imran Gardezi, Secretary Interior Arif Ali Khan, Chairman FBR Nisar Muhammad Khan, besides Members KP and Punjab Shaheen Habibullah and Nargis Nasir respectively.
