Govt committed to welfare of journalists: Pervaiz
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage Senator Pervaiz Rashid Monday said the government was committed to the welfare of journalists and independence of media.
The government believed in freedom of expression and would continue to support and facilitate the growth of free media, he said while talking to a delegation of Khyber Union of Journalists that called on him here.
Senator Pervaiz Rashid said the government was cognizant of the issues being faced by the journalist community, including media persons from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas.
He assured the delegation that the government would continue its efforts to create a conducive environment so that they could perform their professional obligations without any pressure and fear.
The delegation discussed various issues being faced by journalists and sought the government support to address them.
Pervaiz Rashid assured the delegation of full support and reiterated the government’s resolve to facilitate media workers and journalists.
The meeting was also attended by the Secretary Information and Principal Information Officer, Press Information Department.
