Pakistani journalists undeterred in the face of serious challenges: US CG
Karachi: Journalists in Pakistan are faced with grave dangers and challenges everyday but their dedication to the job remains admirably unwavering.
This was stated by United States Consul General Brian Heath during a visit to the Karachi Press Club on Friday in which he donated three computers, networking equipment and printer systems to improve facilities at the club.
“The media plays a pivotal role in any free society. Journalists in Pakistan remain well aware of the dangers they face, and I wanted to come here today to express my gratitude and appreciation for their dedication and hard work,” said Heath.
He also spoke of the efforts being made by the US to promote better journalism in Pakistan including various student exchange and training programs.
“The US State Department is investing $4 million to fund the establishment of the Centre for Excellence in Journalism at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA),” said Heath, adding that the centre would significantly help Pakistani journalists’ in their professional development.
As per details issued in a statement, this year, the US government invited journalists from VSH TV and KTN TV. In addition, the US government paid for 11 Pakistani media professionals from Sindh and Balochistan to travel to there to participate in journalism programs on internet freedom, human rights, security and safety, and social responsibility.
