MILITANCY-HIT AREAS OF KP & FATA: SPEAKERS FOR SAFEGUARDING RIGHTS OF WOMEN, CHILDREN
Peshawar: Speakers have stressed the need of making rights of women and children of militancy-hit areas of KP and Fata, as part of National Action Plan (NAP) for their rehabilitation. The seminar was held under auspices of Omar Asghar Khan Foundation (OAKF) with titled, “Women, Children and Peace” held here at Press Club on Tuesday. The seminar was attributed to the remembering of martyrs of the Peshawar school attack.
Those spoke on the occasion were included former members of National Assembly (MNA) from Awami National Party (ANP) Jameela Gilani, Bushra Gohar, representative of civil societies including OAKF Rashida Dohad, Rakhshanda Naz, provincial legislator Jaffar Shah and women and men from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) participated in the seminar.
Rashida Dohad said that over 50,000 people including women and children had been killed due to terrorism and war against militancy. She said that mostly women and children were affected in this regard as they were vulnerable and reluctant to raise voices for their rights during instability.
She lamented that women and children were more affected during insurgency or any other natural calamities including earthquakes, floods and others, who added were not able to rehabilitate themselves after incidents. She maintained that women on every platform were being tortured as sexual harassment, rape, forced marriages and seclusion. It should be the government’s first priority to provide all kind of facilities to women and children especially of war-stricken areas, she asked.
The ANP members on the occasion, said barbwires around educational institutes was tantamount to increase terrorism adding that schools were converted into prisons while anti-state actors were wandering sans any fear. They said thousands of people particularly women and children had been killed ongoing uncertainty but there is accountability of the innocent people.
They stressed for holding transparent and accountability of the fact and figures of people from Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and US funds for rehabilitation for the effected people of the region. For a peaceful Pakistan and prosperity, we all have to come out their homes to rise for our basic human rights so that everyone of this society is facilitated. Earlier, women other parts of the province expressed their regret depriving women and children from war-hit areas of rehabilitation and demanded of the government to make their basic human rights part of the NAP.
