VP meets Shahbaz: Punjab government, Google to promote cooperation in IT sector
A delegation led by Vice President South Asia and South Eastern Asia of Google Rajan Anandan met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, here on Thursday. It was agreed at the meeting to promote co-operation between Punjab government and Google in information technology sector.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said the promotion of information technology was the top priority of the government. He said information technology was being fully utilised for the capacity-building of provincial departments and institutions which was resulting in promotion of e-governance in the province. He said it was need of the hour to get benefit from the digital technology for the provision of speedy and best services to the masses. He said Punjab government was fully benefiting from digital technology for improvement in education, health, infrastructure, law & order, police and other sectors while the system of monitoring of governmental affairs through smartphones had also been introduced due to which the efficiency of departments as well as provision of services to the masses has considerably improved.
The Chief Minister further said work was being carried out on Safe City Project for controlling crime and maintenance of peace. Similarly, he said, a project had been evolved for setting up a modern ‘Knowledge Park’ and its completion would help in promotion of education and research activities as well as information technology. He said Land Record Management & Information System had facilitated the people in acquiring their ownership deeds as well as eliminated corruption, fraud and forgery.
He said first Information Technology University of the country in public sector had been set up in Lahore which was playing an important role in equipping the students with modern knowledge. Shahbaz Sharif further said he wanted to promote co-operation with Google for the promotion of information technology and steps would be taken expeditiously for that purpose.
Vice President South Asia and South Eastern Asia of Google Rajan Anandan said co-operation with Punjab government in information technology sector would be promoted and they would be happy to work with Punjab under the leadership of Shahbaz Sharif. He said Shahbaz Sharif was taking effective measure under a vision for promotion of good governance in the province and had completed a number of development projects in a record period during his tenure. He said people were fully benefiting from the development projects completed by Shahbaz Sharif. He said Shahbaz Sharif was a dynamic and hardworking chief minister and believed in practical work. He said metro bus project was a proof of public service and Shahbaz Sharif had proved his abilities by completing such a big project in a record period. He said metro bus project was a good example of utilisation of public funds on the masses.
